Lunch and our spiritual lives

Yesterday, in the newsletter (which you can subscribe to here), I discussed part of my approach to summer. Usually the newsletter is scheduled earlier than Saturday, but I squeaked by making the last changes on Saturday evening this week.

Sunday morning, I was sitting quietly in my chair talking and listening to God after reading my Bible, and I realized I had forgotten something important about summer: lunch. I only have it in me to plan and cook one bigger meal a day. I need a consistent, predictable, easy to handle system for lunch. Something similar to sandwiches on Monday and Thursday, pasta and veggies on Tuesday and Fridays, and hotdogs and fries on Wednesdays.  (Or maybe that very outline.)

We have special dietary needs at our house and food takes up a significant portion of my brain planning space. Flailing about for lunch choices every day all summer would be miserable.

You might think that’s a strange thing to be reminded of while praying, but I do not. God is just as interested in my stress over feeding my family as He is over what I was convinced about during the sermon yesterday. All of our lives are spiritual. Nothing is separated from our life with God. Not even lunch.
