People you should know
Right now, I’m reading Danté Stewart’s book Shoutin’ in the Fire. It’s heartrending and not unexpected. It’s a story of life that has been repeated for generations, though as a society, we could alleviate much of the pain. Apparently we just can’t be bothered too and that will be to our judgment. The beauty, however, cannot be hidden.
Ellen Davis is fast becoming one of my favorite OT scholars. She’s written on the wisdom literature (don’t miss that commentary on Ecclesiastes) and has an insightful book on knowing God in the OT. This quarter I read most of Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture for my Creation Care and Sabbath Economics class and I will keep it out and reread the whole thing. She’s a deep thinker and a beautiful writer.
