Disruption

Saturday night we went to a dance at a country club with friends. It’s quite outside our usual venue and activities. (We are members of the Y, not the country club.)The median age of the attendees was 65, if not older, and everyone was very happy about this table of “young people.” And the table of people in their late 30s was thrilled to be the young people.

I’ve been thinking about disruption the past few months. Not the kind of disruption that happens that is out of our control and tears our lives apart. The disruption of doing something new, seeing from a new perspective, finding a different viewpoint. I’m a rhythm and rituals woman; I value faithfulness and excellence and consistency. AND I’m seeing the value of play and getting outside my box. It wakes something up in me. Reminds me of things that are easy to forget about God, about myself, about others.
